Learn how to play Ticket to Hell, a sinful party card game where you use tickets, actions, and defenses to avoid eternal damnation. Full rules and setup guide.
Quick Answer
Ticket to Hell is a cutthroat party card game where you start with three tickets and use actions, defenses, and divine interventions to avoid being the first to lose all your tickets and get sent to Hell.
What Makes Ticket to Hell Different
Unlike cooperative or purely luck-based card games, Ticket to Hell forces you to actively target opponents while protecting yourself. The mix of Mortal Sins, Unforgivable Sins, and Divine Intervention adds a layer of strategy and dark humor that sets it apart from typical party games.
How to Play Ticket to Hell: Step-by-Step
- Setup: Shuffle the deck and deal each player three Tickets. Place the remaining deck in the center. Each player keeps their tickets face up in front of them. Common mistake: players hide their tickets. Keep them visible so everyone knows who is closest to losing.
- Turn Structure: On your turn, draw one card from the deck. Then play one Action card from your hand (if you have one) targeting another player. Actions can force an opponent to lose a ticket or suffer a penalty. You may also play a Defense card to block an action against you. Checkpoint: you can only play one Action per turn, but you can use Defenses at any time when targeted.
- Sins and Divine Intervention: If you draw or are forced to commit a Mortal Sin, you may discard one Ticket to pray for Divine Intervention and cancel the sin. An Unforgivable Sin cannot be canceled—you must lose a Ticket immediately. Watch your Ticket count. If you drop to zero, you are out of the game and sent to Hell.
- Winning the Game: The last player with at least one Ticket remaining wins. All other players are damned. Empty
Game Overview
- Ticket to Hell: You have three Tickets to save yourself from the fiery pit. But your opponents are out to get you. And you must respond in kind. This means you are constantly balancing offense and defense, making every turn a decision about who to attack and how to protect your own tickets.
